We keep trying to take the remote control back from God, from the natural order of the universe. We fluctuate between channels, changing from fear to love and back to fear again. We can’t possibly deal with the patience it takes to handle the channel of love, to sit with the unknown nature of living there, so we restlessly return to fear.
We return to fear, to what we know, knowing what we find there doesn’t work; we end up on the same crooked paths leading to the same, unsatisfactory results. “At least these paths are safe and comfortable,” we say to ourselves.
Comfort doesn’t equate with fulfillment. Safety doesn’t equate with satisfaction. Nothing meaningful comes out of living in fear; nothing grows there so we never fully blossom into our true potential and higher selves.
We stay put until we eventually change the channel to a new way, a better way, the way of love. But we don’t stay long enough. We want to take back control when God needs to be in charge of the remote.
the mechanism of control
We need to admit that when we seize control, things don’t always go as we’d like them to. We are looking for a new way, but we never surrender to a different approach. God is always attempting to guide us along the new path. We must have a willingness and desire to be lead.
He knows we are timid in traversing this new approach to life outside our comfort zones, so He reassures us time and time again that He’s got this. His track record is golden. He has every solution possible and every perspective needed to keep traveling beyond our fears.
We won’t know exactly where leading with our hearts takes us, but it will be guaranteed to be better than the unsatisfying, meaningless road we’ve worn ourselves out on.
Can we live with never knowing just how truly great the road less traveled could be? Could we die knowing we never attempted to guard our hearts and follow our dreams? Would we be ok with settling for the status quo even if the status quo is stifling to our very soul? Would we wonder what if... ?
God doesn’t want us to face the reality of these unattempted chances at the beauty life has to offer. To have a real shot at the life of our dreams, we have to stick to love. We have to surrender control and permanently hand the remote over to God. We have to do everything we can to stay the path of our heart’s desires and vanquish the side effects of fear. For this is true living. This is real love—guided by a God who loves us beyond anything we can comprehend.
